Aerolíneas Argentinas is Argentina’s largest airline and the country‘s flag carrier. It is a member of SkyTeam.
History[]
The airline was founded in 1929 as an air postal company called Compagnie Générale Aéropostale between Buenos Aires and Asuncion. Slowly, they expanded their routes and added more fleet of aircrafts to keep up the demand of rising passengers.
In 1950, the company was merged by two other companies at that time which led to the formation of Aerolíneas Argentinas. It incorporated some iconic aircraft in the aviation industry, such as the DC-3 and the Comet IV, which inaugurated the “jet era”, a technological leap that would allow a 50% reduction in the duration of the flight.
During the 60's the airline acquired Boeing 707s, 737s and 747s as they started international routes beyond Latin America.
The airline was privatised in the 90's and from this present day, Aerolíneas Argentinas has made a significant fleet and general infrastructure revamping and now it has its own pilot training center (CeFePra) and the New Hangar 5, the largest in Latin America. Accordingly, it is in constant modernization process in all its areas, both of operations and customer services.
Today. Aerolíneas Group has a fleet comprising Embraer 190, Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737-MAX 8 and Airbus A330-200 aircraft. Together with Austral Líneas Aéreas, Aerolíneas Argentinas covers a broad range of domestic, regional and international destinations.
Alliance[]
Aerolíneas Argentinas joined Skyteam in August 2012, making them the second Latin American Airline to join an alliance and making them the 18th member.
