The Messerschmitt Bf.110 was a twin engine, low-wing fighter aircraft, that was created in Germany, shortly before the beginning of World War II. The first flight took place on 12th May 1936 and it entered service at the beginning of World War II, in the year 1939. The Bf 110 was designed to be used as a “Destroyer”, with the task, to shoot down enemy aircraft and to escort German bomber fleets. However it was realized, during air combat over Great Britain, that the Bf 110 was not manoeuvrable enough to be successful in air-to-air warfare, as over 200 of them were lost.
So that in the end of the year 1940, some modifications have been made, to use the Bf 110 as a fighter-bomber, reconnaissance aircraft and as a night-fighter and from 1943 on it was only used as a night-fighter
