Accident description[]

Circumstances[]

Fifteen minutes after takeoff from Chicago Airport, copilot informed ATC about problems on right engine and elected to return. Later, left engine lost power and crew decided to make an emergency landing in an open field. Aircraft eventually hit trees and crashed in a wooded area. Stewardess and passenger were slightly injured while both pilots were seriously injured.

Cause[]

It is the opinion of the Accident Board that the probable cause of this accident was ice forming in the carburetors which resulted in loss of power.
