The SZD-9 Bocian (Stork) is a Polish two-seat glider developed by SZD (Szybowcowy Zakład Doświadczalny, Glider Experimental Works).
History[]
The SZD-9 was designed by Marian Wasilewski, Roman Zatwarnicki and Justyn Sandauer. The prototype made its first flight on 10 March 1952 and production began in early 1953 after minor modifications. 617 Bocians were built until 1977.
The SZD-9 was advanced for its time, and unlike most two-seat gliders, it was fit for competition flying and aerobatics, in addition to training. Several world records were set with the SZD-9.

- SZD-9bis Bocian-1C - wings swept at lesser angle, modified control surfaces and rear skid, 40 built.
- SZD-9bis Bocian-Z - competition variant for 1956 World Gliding Competition, 3 built (2 modified from Bocian Cs).
- SZD-9bis Bocian-1D - larger wheel and minor modifications, 186 built.
- SZD-9bis Bocian-1E - straight wing tips, two-part canopy instead of three-part, landing gear with shock absorbers, 366 built.
- SZD-33 Bocian 3 - improved trainer version, cancelled in favor of the Bocian-1E.
